More Than Just a Clean Surface
Interlocking pavers add distinct character to your property, but they require specific maintenance to stay level and weed-free. Over time, the sand between the joints erodes, allowing moss and weeds to take root and causing the stones to shift or wobble.
Thompson Property Services provides comprehensive paver cleaning and resanding. We restore the original vibrant color of your stones and refill the joints, leaving your patio looking as fresh as the day it was installed.
Our Process
Cleaning pavers requires a delicate balance. Using high pressure can damage the surface of the stone and blast away too much of the bedding sand.
We use a high-water-volume, low-pressure cleaning method. This floods the surface to lift dirt, moss, and old debris gently but effectively. By using water volume rather than force, we clean the pores of the stone without pitting the surface or disturbing the base layers underneath.
The Importance of Resanding
The most critical step in paver restoration happens after the cleaning. Once the old, contaminated joint material is removed and the surface is dry, we apply fresh joint sand.
Why Resanding is Essential:
- Structural Stability: The sand acts as a friction bond between the stones. Without it, pavers can become loose, wobble, and eventually sink.
- Weed Prevention: Fresh, properly compacted sand creates a barrier that makes it difficult for weeds and moss to re-establish.
- Uniform Appearance: New sand gives the entire area a crisp, finished look, highlighting the geometry of your design.
Surfaces We Restore
We apply this specialized process to all types of paver hardscapes, including:
- Walkways and Driveways
- Patios and Pool Decks
- Retaining Walls
- Firepits and Courtyards
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need to resand?
Joint sand is the “glue” that holds an interlocking paver system together. Cleaning inevitably removes some of the old sand (along with the weeds growing in it). If we don’t replace it, the pavers will lose their structural integrity and begin to shift.
Will this stop weeds permanently?
While no outdoor surface is weed-proof forever, our process drastically reduces regrowth. By removing the organic soil from the joints and replacing it with clean sand, we remove the environment where weeds thrive.
Do you seal the pavers?
Yes, we highly recommend it. Sealing is the final step in concrete surface protection. It enhances the color of the stone, hardens the joint sand to further prevent weeds, and protects the pavers from UV fading and oil stains.
